Near Pigeon Forge, TN this past weekend. It did not look like anyone was hurt. This was on one of the narrow, windy side roads that people often use to bypass Pigeon Forge’s awful traffic.
Hum… side road or not, that section is straight. Perhaps something darted out in front of it. Could be trying to read the gps and veered off. If he was lost, it looks like a great place on the left to pull off and regroup.

Put a car jack under the tongue, unbolt the jack, and lower it onto your ball. Manual lifts can be bought at Tractor supply and Northern Tool or most trailering stores.
I don’t know for sure, but I’d imagine there’s a reduction gear train inside the head that takes the (relatively) weak 12V input and turns it into torque that can raise ~800-1000 pounds with little strain. Your video sure sounds and looks like broken gear(s) to me (you can see AND hear the pulsing), and if that’s the case, it’s likely not repairable BUT manually cranking the jack with the on-order tool should at least get you up and down as needed (the wrench/driver is working directly on the threaded shaft of the jack; the motor is likely trying to drive a pinion into the threaded shaft (which works like a worm gear). To save some wear and tear on your shoulders, I’d measure that bolt head and see if there’s an applicable socket you can buy. You could chuck that into an impact/drill and use that to actuate the jack too…
It’s broke, you need to just replace it. Even if you can somehow get it freed up using manual crank your just prolonging the inevitable. Then it will wait to completely crap out at the worst possible time. Power tongue jacks are not very expensive and super easy to replace

We are living on my dads place while we wait for our septic system to be installed on ours and have to dump using this portable. I literally spill shit every single time I dump because whatever genius designed it decided that they didn’t need a valve to stop the siphon action in the drain hose… Has anyone successfully added a gate valve between the tank and the hose? If so how and does it make this particular tank less nasty and more usable?

I feel like I just watched this. Wasn’t there a post a couple weeks ago of a 1 ton towing a 40k lbs boat that blew through an intersection because he couldn’t stop it?
Going camping last summer driving on a two lane highway with not a lot of room to pass. Traffic is moving slow. Find out it’s a U haul loaded down with bricks, like bottoming out. I end up behind him looking like the asshole holding up traffic with my RV.
Reminds me of this fatal collision which involved a large boat on a triple axle trailer. The tow vehicle was a Ford F-350 dually. I could be wrong but that U-Haul truck doesn’t appear to be anything more than a 1/2 ton to me. News Article
2021 Jayco Jayflight I had to pull out my refrigerator to fix a water leak. Unhooked propane line and unplugged. Slid out the refrigerator and fixed the leak. After that i realized I left the white and white yellow strip wire connected. They pulled off and now I’m not sure which one goes where…can anyone with similar camper/refrigerator help a guy out?? I don’t have a meter to test, but I assume these are just for 12v light. I am plugged in and I assume the refrigerator is working, but the light doesn’t come on.
Black and red are 12v in and ground. White(connected) is probably 12v consumer positive. Where were the wires connected here? (Even if they’re out of order)
I believe yellow or yellow white is 12VDC in the revised code. Usually black/white is 120VAC and neutral, Yellow is 12v and white is ground. This is the marine wiring standard, most new rv’s follow this wiring standard – at least to the extent that RV’s follow any standard :). Before I hooked up I would test it but if all it is powering is the light then polarity doesn’t matter

Is this a Grand Design? I bought a new GD 22RBE this year and the first time I used the awning I attempted to tilt it using the support arm and it broke resulting in my thumb being CRUSHED OFF!!!
I have only had mine long enough for 5 trips now. However, I always close the awning when I go to bed, or whenever it no longer is providing benefits. However, I also live in Oklahoma where the wind can go from calm to 40mph gusts without warning.
Two things I worry about are the awning or the slide having some kind of breakage like this while I’m camping, and then having to try to figure out how to buckle it up so I can drive home.

I love how the older Class A’s all have far more windows than the new ones. I live in a vintage Executive and I absolutely love all the long windows. Even a back window. Almost like living in a converted bus. Everywhere I go, I look at all the rv’s to see what kind of windows they have and it is very dissappointing. I want to get into something newer and I think I am going to be sad.

My wife and I have spent the last year learning about travel trailers, watching YouTube, reading forums, and walking through what was on the dealer lots. We finally landed on the 2306BHS due to the weight being a good match for our truck and the floorplan being great for us and our two young kids.
Love it! We bought our 2100BHS in May and absolutely love it !! Have spent around 50 nights in it already .
I am partially considering an upgrade to the 2306 solely for the position of the main bed.. no one has to crawl over the other in your model. Enjoy!!
Micro Minnie 2100BH owner here. F150 tow vehicle. Would buy again. It’s well built, bunks for the grandkids, off road package is great for blm and forest service roads, nice weight, double axel, tows easily.
Nice rig! Very similar to a unit I just bought in size and layout. Honest question, what purpose do the off-road tires serve? I had the option but couldn’t rationalize any circumstance where I would need that sort of traction and be willing to trade off (presumably) worse mileage. We do boondock in some pretty off-road locations but have never had a trailer traction issue (truck, sure I get that). Maybe I drive slow when it gets rough, maybe it’s all the weight on them. I was told the “off-road package” was exclusively limited to the tires so we opted out. If it’s just for the look, that’s totally cool and I get that too, but am genuinely curious if I missed something!
Your inverter is “modified sine wave”, so not suitable for sensitive electronics. I wouldn’t use it with computers, TVs or stereos. It will work with small compressors, power tools, etc.
I’ll echo what u/regnillub had to say. That’s a modified sine inverter vs a pure sine inverter. I wouldn’t plug a laptop or flat screen TV into that. Power tools, water pumps, an old refrigerator, sure. These days you can get a decent 300w PSW inverter for $50 or less. You might find an even better deal in a cyber Monday sale.
It’s your over temp fuse. I had one fail right after I bought my trailer. I jumped the connection to test the water heater and it was fine. I bought a few very cheap on Amazon and replaced when it came in and kept a couple spare fuses. I haven’t had an issue since. I really thought it was a fuse failure due to the climate was mild and it failed immediately after a camp setup. Good to keep some extra wire connectors as well or a simple part like this will prevent the water heater from working until repaired. Cheap fix tho unless there is a real issue. Ohm test showed the fuse was not working.

Nice rig! Very similar to a unit I just bought in size and layout. Honest question, what purpose do the off-road tires serve? I had the option but couldn’t rationalize any circumstance where I would need that sort of traction and be willing to trade off (presumably) worse mileage. We do boondock in some pretty off-road locations but have never had a trailer traction issue (truck, sure I get that). Maybe I drive slow when it gets rough, maybe it’s all the weight on them. I was told the “off-road package” was exclusively limited to the tires so we opted out. If it’s just for the look, that’s totally cool and I get that too, but am genuinely curious if I missed something!

We had a 2020 MM and just a heads up, the front storage allowed rain to get in and seep into the undercarriage. We had to rip out the under wrap and insulation completely. Also check all plumping and tighten anything you can, had many slow leaks.

I was there a few months ago. It truly is a beautiful place. Until you’re cornered by the bison on your mountain bike and your ride goes from 10 to 17 miles and you run out of water, and the horse flies eat you alive, and your phone dies..
I’m mostly concerned by the fact he’s trying to tow with a Celica, everyone knows FWD is a suboptimal tow platform. If he had a Supra he’d be fine, I see plenty of 6-cyl twin turbos towing 5th wheels.
Great that you boxed off that area under the trailer. Will help if you shovel the snow up against it to keep the wind from blowing through and breaking it up. Add a few 100w string lights in that area and keep the floor noticeably warmer too.
Another under the bed will take the edge off there too.

If you lift the mattress up could you lift the plywood up and see what’s under there. It’s probably storage for your electrical cord and inverter since that’s there the fuse box is
I think fresh water, and grey, black tanks are underneath the entire camper. Like others theorize, I think under this guest bed is some kind of wiring or some kind of mystery mechanical stuff.. I think hot water heater is by my shower on opposite side of camper. The water hose for me to attach to my camper is on the outside, on the corner of my guest bed. I’ve heard my water pump near my kitchenette sink..
I’d have to get tools and disassemble to see under this bed.. the bathroom is beside this guest bed, and a hose comes out of the wall by guest bed. I’m curious about if I were to update, or have to repair anything, what kind of mystery stuff would be under there?

What are you towing it with that such a small trailer needs a weight-distributing hitch?
Also, a warning: that trailer lock is absolute garbage. The yellow part is cast zinc, and it’s very weak. Wouldn’t take long to cut it off, wouldn’t take much force to break it off. Seriously — you could fairly easily defeat that lock just by hitting it with a rock.
There aren’t very many good trailer locks on the market right now. But at least try to find one that’s 100% steel construction.
Personally, I like to take a spare trailer hitch ball, use an angle grinder to remove the threads from the bolt section (so nobody can attach it to their hitch), and then insert that into the trailer’s coupler and tighten it down so it won’t come out. Then lock the trailer’s hitch coupler with a decent-quality padlock. That’s pretty foolproof, and it’s a lot cheaper than most trailer locks out there … though it’s only as good as the padlock you use.
While we’re on the topic of security, take a look at your key for the side compartments on this trailer. Chances are, it says ‘751’ on it somewhere. If so, I have a key to your trailer … and so does any other RV owner … and so does anybody who buys a 751 key on Amazon.
I’d recommend changing the side compartment locks to just about any RV owner. Using a 751 keyed lock is more illusion of security than actual security. (And a lot of those locks are such absolute garbage anyway that you could simply open them with a screwdriver or any other random key that happens to fit in the keyhole.)
I’ll stop criticizing and offering unsolicited advice now. Trailer is cute.

One night shake down, leaving in a couple days with my sister for a week, SE US coastal area. A bit nervous, but more excited. I’ve got my setup/take down list, so I know I won’t forget anything, and it drives so much easier than our previous class A.

“A picture is worth a thousand words.”–We’ve all heard that expression. A good picture can evoke thoughts and feelings. A great picture, however, can do so much more.
If you’re looking to step up your picture game and preserve memories on your next RV adventure, then look no further. We’ve compiled a few tips that are sure to help you take amazing photos of your RV.
There are a lot of reasons to take nice photos of your RV. Maybe you’re sharing photos on social media, listing your RV for sale, or renting out your RV with Good Sam RV Rentals. No matter why you’re snapping shots of your rig, staging your RV beforehand is key.
Staging creates the perfect balance of establishing a lived-in feel without being messy. A well-staged photo will make the viewer want to be a part of the scene; they should envision themselves settling in without having to move anything or make any adjustments. How do you achieve that? Creating a cozy vibe is easier than you think.
Start by cleaning.A clean space is like a clean slate or an empty canvas – everything you do afterward is like creating art. Wipe down the counters, vacuum and mop the floors, launder and fluff linens, then dust and wipe down all the surfaces. Touch up the paint on walls and doors, if needed. The last thing you want is to snap the perfect picture only to find dirt, scratches, and dust once you zoom in.
Set the scene. Once everything has been cleaned, it’s time for the fun part. Organize any items within eyesight so they appear neat and tidy. Put all plates and cups away. If you have open shelving, style and stack the dishware nicely. Even if they aren’t the focal point of your picture, they could potentially be in the background.
Create a Mood. Place a glass or two on the dinette and pour in grape juice or wine if you’re feeling fancy. Create an invitation where people want to feel included in the scene. Group items that suggest what the area is for together. Show an activity about to happen which can evoke a mood. A bowl of popcorn by a chair? It must be time for that movie you’ve been meaning to watch. A Scrabble board with a game already in progress? It must be game night.
Don’t forget the details. With the space clean and the mood set, what’s left? The details. Perfection always boils down to the tiny, little details. Walk through and take note of pillow placement, folded blankets, wrinkled rugs. Straighten anything that needs it. Grab some fresh flowers and put them in a vase. Is there a candle in the frame? Light it. Little things like this are what take an image from a basic picture to an insta-worthy photograph.
How to Take Staged and Candid Family Photos In and Around Your RV
Though your RV might feel like a member of the family, there’s more to consider than just posing in front of it. RV photos don’t have to feel stiff. If you’re looking to spruce up your photo album or hoping to take a picture worthy enough of a frame, we’ve got you covered.
Think about location. What most people fail to consider before they snap their picture is what is behind the subject. A background can make or break your image. Pull out of the parking lot, get out of the driveway, and hit the road to find something more inspiring. In storage, while a responsible choice, is not where you want to take your next photograph. When posting your RV for rent or sale, you’ll be surprised by how much a nice backdrop will drive interest in your listing.
Try pulling up to your favorite campground and parking directly in front of your favorite view. The image will hold special meaning and memories as a result. Take tips from staging and apply here; feel free to set up camping chairs or fire up the firepit. Create ways for your family to interact for a more interesting image. Someone could be in the doorway exiting the RV. Someone could have a waving arm hanging out of the driver’s side window. It’s possible to capture candid moments with a little bit of guidance along the way.
Lighting is everything. When it comes to taking an amazing photo, good lighting is imperative. If possible, shoot in natural sunlight as it’s the most complimentary light source. Aim for early morning after sunrise or late afternoon before the sun sets and take advantage of the golden hours those windows provide. When taking pictures inside your RV, open all the blinds and shades to let in as much light as possible. If your image ends up looking washed out, you can always tweak the contrast or tone down the exposure. It’s better to be too bright than too dark.
When taking pictures of an RV, the interior specifically, there are a few things to keep in mind so your images match (or exceed) what you’re seeing in person. How do you do this? It’s fairly simple to do, especially once you make a habit of it.
Pay attention to your angles. If you’re taking pictures for a listing, whether for sale or for renting, try to keep a consistent angle in every picture. Imagine taking the viewer on a tour and allowing them to see the RV through your eyes. Be conscious of height and sightlines. Use a wide-angle lens, if possible. For RV interiors, a wide shot is essential in capturing the perfect picture given the small space.
Pay attention to perspective. Spaces can look bigger when the perspective is exaggerated. If you’re taking pictures for fun, for your Instagram feed, or for printing and framing then playing with perspective will add depth and interest to your photos. Follow leading lines like countertops in the kitchen, stand on a ladder to get a higher vantage point, kneel or sit on the ground to get elongated images – all are ways to add depth for an amazing photo of your RV.

A favourite Youtuber of mine (Slim Potatohead) has a trailer like that. He did a video of lifting the entire shell off the frame and buying a new aluminum frame.
I suppose the good news is that the shell still looks good. If it’s just the frame call a welder and ask them to come to your site. Send pics and they can bring 1/2” plate and fix the frame. Most have trucks with everything they need because they fix broken tractors at job sites.
If this happens to you immediately ensure the propane valve is closed, remove the gas line from the tank. open the trailer to vent it out just in case. A broken propane line that leaks into a trailer can create a very explosive situation.

It is so nice to have utilities where you park at home. I put in a clean out to our septic and also ran 30A power to the trailer. That cost a pretty penny for the wire and backhoe but don’t regret it at all. Being able to have the fridge on 110v days prior to leaving, using the trailer as a spare bedroom for family during the holidays, having AC available and the best is not having to find a dump station or wait in line at one.
You don’t want to open your black sewer line for the first few days for a couple of reasons. Your solids need to be in a good bit of liquid to flow out, usually even with multiple people that’s going to be a few days. Otherwise they just drop to the bottom of your tank or get to the first part of the hose and sit there. And dry out. The pee will flow right past it. You’ll get the dreaded poop pyramid in the tank. Also having it open is letting that gross sewer gas rise and flow up into your RV. Wait until 3 days in and pull forward to dump then if needed, black first then grey to rinse.
If you are just using the grey because of showers, still leave it shut for the first few then open your hose and let it out then close it or you get the sewer aroma coming up through your shower drain and sinks.

Spent the day winterizing and putting the cover on our class A. Was hoping to get one last trip to enjoy the fall after our end of September trip ended abruptly and two days early. But the weather in NY is calling for temps in the upper 20s next week and I don’t see us getting out anytime soon. Spring will be here soon enough though….
It could be worse. We bought a class A diesel pusher last fall. Used it once before winterizing, with the plan to start traveling nearly full time in the spring. I hurt my back in Feb and haven’t been able to use it once so far this year. It just sits there in the driveway. Mocking me.
The steel clamp is to far back from the end of the PEX. Cut the old clamp off and replace the ring clamp. When you take the PEX pipe off you should see two barbs ( bumps) on the plastic fitting. Make sure the new clamp is over both barbs before tightening the new ring clamp. Should be all good as after that.

Work on your line weights. You should be using darkness of lines to show depth and also importance in your drawing. Also lettering is important in hand drafting. Try using all capital letters.
Dimensions should be in more organized strings. Is it 29’ overall or 29’ plus the bumper. I would have dimensioned it with 3 strings. One showing bumper to hitch, then one showing bumper size, cabin size, then hitch size. The a third on that shows locations of critical items like windows and walls. If it’s just supposed to be a design piece I would have just done over all and cabin and left off window sizes too.
Over all it a clean drawing and I’ve kinda nerded out on it Because I done get to deal with drawing much any more. As you move into CAD everything get faster and it becomes more important to consider how your drawing will be used. So you’ll produce multiple drawings showing specifics things. The guy doing the framing won’t care about furniture size so you’d leave that off. He only cares about the TV because he need to put in blocking so you add that in as a detail.

Don’t forget space on the hitch for batteries. The sofa and table configuration don’t appear to have enough room for peoples legs. Be thoughtful on how you use electronics and where stuff will need to be plugged in for charging (Battery or shore power). You also can not have enough storage. Looks like a fantastic start!
Slider to the bedroom will give you back 8″ in length. I would loose the pantry for kitchen counter space… you don’t loose a ton since it would have upper/lower cabinets. Would also give you an option to move the sink to an outside wall / window Otherwise, kinda cool, I love the slideless floorplan.. then again, I wonder if the bed was flipped 90 degree with a small 18″ deep bedroom slider. That may gain another foot from the length.

I had this same water heater. Everyone is correct. You don’t have an anode. What you do have is an electric heating element that will corrode and fail over time very much like an anode. However, it’s on the other side of the unit along with water hookups and the electric relay control. Depending on RV installation, it can be easy or a real pita to remove with a special socket you’ll have to buy first. Don’t get any of that wiring in the backside wet or else the cheapo solder will corrode and you’ll be replacing that too.

This is our first year with a camper, and we are still learning a lot! Bought the Jayco used this summer, and used the propane furnace for the first time this weekend. Camping in 25-50 degree temps makes us appreciate our warm house a lot more! (We did cheat and carefully use an electric space heater for most of the time.)
Father Hennepin is a great little park just outside of Isle, MN. The grocery store, liquor store, hardware store, and best of all an amazing bakery are all 5 minutes away!
The park has some beautiful (short) hiking trails, and there are larger state parks nearby. Highly recommended!
So how bad was the cold in the popup? We’re taking our out in a few weeks and wondering just how far we can push into the winter here. Our averages temps don’t hit 32 until December, but of course that’s only average.
We’ve got a electric heated blanket and a vornado space heater ready to go. We will of course be safe as can be with everything.
Wondering if it’s good enough to enjoy or more of an “adventure” to sleep that cold. Mainly because we have a kiddo and “adventure” with sleeping is no fun for anyone.
