A favourite Youtuber of mine (Slim Potatohead) has a trailer like that. He did a video of lifting the entire shell off the frame and buying a new aluminum frame.

P.S. I do hate to see that.

Parents had a 13ft Scamp, exact same thing happened to them. The tongue is built from thin walled tubing.

Luckily they were close to a town and found a skilled welder to repair and reinforce it.

bpg131313:

I suppose the good news is that the shell still looks good. If it’s just the frame call a welder and ask them to come to your site. Send pics and they can bring 1/2” plate and fix the frame. Most have trucks with everything they need because they fix broken tractors at job sites.

Ouch what happened?

Odd_Pomegranate3118:

If this happens to you immediately ensure the propane valve is closed, remove the gas line from the tank. open the trailer to vent it out just in case. A broken propane line that leaks into a trailer can create a very explosive situation.

dzsquared:

Comment for folks with Scamps or other eggs:

  • careful with how you load the trailer for towing, don’t just pile it all right inside the door.
  • once you park and setup put jacks under all 4 corners.
  • eventually, your fiberglass shell will outlast the axle and the frame. It’s not upcommon for the shell to last decades but the whole metal frame has taken a beating.

iMogal:

LOL, I was on the market for a boiler.

Found one for $5,000 (The cheapest by over 50% around here)

Turns out half the frame was broken like pictured, but the bonus was the NEST OF CARPENTER ANTS.

YES, carpenter ants. They burried themselves under the carpet lined ceiling.

I offered him $2k and he lost his mind and kicked my off his property LOL.

I obliged and walked away.
