Check the alignment of the cleat where the cable is attached. It might be installed in too high or low. That will cause it to rub on the diamond shape opening I’m the column.

sounds like maybe some imbalance between cables if one is continually breaking

Sounds like the cable isn’t the right gauge for the weight of your slide out. I get that that’s the cable gauge the manufacturer recommends but if it’s constantly fraying then there’s something wrong.

There are several different grades of cable in the same diameter,I would try a higher grade of stainless steel cable.
