If you throw a single little drop of dishwashing soap in there it will break the surface tension and the flies won’t be able to stand on the water, causing them to drown faster.
I figured out that they love my white wine so much that I just put a drop of dish liquid in leftover wine and keep it in a sippy cup. I catch tons of no-see-ums this way

Cut the top third off, mix your potion, then push the top in upside down. You don’t want any potion on the top because they won’t be drawn into the trap.

I use a fly swatter.
They are awful here and I have all of these ingredients on hand! Trying!
