Hello!
Do I need to remove the part of the caulk that’s actually still good??? Or can I just caulk right over that??
The “right” way is to remove the old, clean and put new “Dicor 501LSW-1 Self-Leveling Lap Sealant”, but if there’s just light cracking I’ve never had a problem just laying new Dicor over the existing (and I’m not a good clean-first guy)..
OP – just use a hair dryer on the highest heat setting and use a good putty knife to scrape away the old stuff. You don’t need to get it all up but give yourself a reasonably clean surface to reapply new. Dicor self-leveling lap sealant can actually last up to 20 years in the most ideal situations and never cures so it’s the best thing going for sealing up the roof. The key though is that the surface needs to be clean so that it can both adhere and properly create a seal.
If you take the easiest route, you’ll be working on it again sooner rather than later. It’s just not that hard to get the old stuff up. Good luck.
U “should” be able to caulk over it if ur using proper “lap seal”, however, I strongly recommend removing it. If you seal over it, please clean the surface first with a light detergent
Leave it, clean the roof thoroughly use the new silicone spray roofing thats being used on commercial buildings all over south Florida. And just fix it once and for all
I’m a fan of EternaBond sealant tape. You can leave that down, clean it, then apply the tape right over it. Look on YouTube for how to apply it.
