Anybody know what part this is?

Gas valve solenoid.

Looks like the burner tube had debris in it and the flame came out the mixer and melted it. Could also be poor gas pressure.

Check for anything in the burner tube and replace the gas valve.

There’s a model number for your water heater on a sticker usually on the left just out of the picture.

Use that to find the correct parts.
