So we live in our RV full time in Arkansas. A few weeks ago we had a REALLY bad cold front and while our pipes survived. Our black tank not so much lol. My husband came home from work at 3am and notifed we had a literal “poopsicle” upon further investigation (the next day) he realized we had a crack in our black tank which caused a leak and because of the weather it froze.
So for your viewing pleasure I share with you the poopsicle.
Also we are replacing the black tank once spring hits. My husband has committed to doing it himself. Any advice or pointers?
I have no words, but I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
I said out loud “oh shit” then I realized what I said and got tears in my eyes from laughing so hard…???????? that being said sorry for your upcoming mess
I always knew poopsicles were real
From the thumbnail I was like, “Why do you have a carpet under your RV??” So the reality is slightly less gross, but still gross.
For replacement this may go without saying but a FULL flush with water and some dish soap, multiple times is the minimum amount of prep you want. If you have a clean-out inlet I suggest running that the entire time for every empty.
Without seeing more pics removal can be pretty straightforward or a pain in the ass, I pray yours is like mine was. Mine was secured by metal brackets that were threaded, I’m not sure what the actual term is, but you’d know it if you saw it. Disconnecting the pipes wasn’t all that hard and the whole thing dropped out from under, no lift required.
While you’re down there it’s worth the money to get some tank heaters. 12v pads nowadays are automatic once energized and do a good job staving off the cold, turning on below 45 and turning off at 60ish.
Poopsicle.
When it’s extra cold I put some windshield wiper fluid in my black tank keeps it from freezing.
Between now and when you install the replacement tank, I’d highly suggest heading over to Walmart for a campa-potti. For the two of you, it’ll probably need dumping every 2 to 3 days at least, but at least it’s better than being parked over a slowly growing pile of…
Sorry to see that you had a sh¡♧♧¥ happening this winter. ????
