Taking your RV on a ferry elevates the average camping trip to something more exciting. These classic trips cross both domestic and international waters.
We know that RV Lifestyle Fellow Travelers LOVE state parks across the U.S. And why wouldn’t you? After all, there are more than 6,000 state park units across the nation. That means that while RVing, chances are you will find some beautiful locations. Of course, it means it can be challenging to p…

This is how all of us in Florida today are spending much of our time on this Labor Day #hurricanedorian
Same in Saint Simons Island on the coast of Georgia just an hour north of Jacksonville Florida and south of Savannah Georgia. Walked the beach this morning doing an island weather report and trash pick up, there was no beach… water was to the sand dunes! ???? ???? ???? ☔️ Our lighthouse is boarded up!
I’m watching grass growing
Stay safe in Florida and along the coast.
Us too in Ca our granddaughter is in St Augustine
Yep
Same here, although not staying glued to it, stresses me out. Just check the morning, noon, six and ten o clock news.
Me too in SC
GLAD I don’t live there no more. So nice not having to worry about hurricanes anymore. I went through many hurricanes and it’s not fun.
As Michiganders, we hold a special place in our hearts for the lakes of the U.S. and Canada. Of course, we’re especially partial to the Great Lakes, but there are many, many others. When it comes to sheer size of the bodies of water, the team at Travel Trivia recently broke down a list of the “7…
Love the Great Lakes as I’m a Yooper born and raised.
So sorry to say this for I have always enjoyed your postings, but I’m finding it very difficult and mostly “frustrating” to navigate on your site. The reason for this is because of the multitude of adds and pop-ups. It’s to the point where I didn’t even complete looking at the 7 Great Lakes and other recent postings.

I love Chef Mary Jane Curry’s book. It teaches you how you can prepare the majority of your meals in advance or while on a camping adventure. : https://smallkitchenbigflavorsblog.wordpress.com

Are you ready to make “someday” come true today? It’s possible. Read this interview with one of the best personal coaches and motivators I’ve ever encountered!
When it comes to RVing, so many people dream of “someday.” Someday when they retire and buy that RV, someday when they have enough money to hit the road, someday when the kids are grown and they can start traveling. Someday. Thing is, there is no guarantee that “someday” will ever come and t…
And if you are considering an RV rental, read this for a reality check. It includes some things to consider and to watch out for.
If you are testing out renting an RV with the idea you may purchase one, pay attention to this paragraph:
“If the goal of your trip is to scope out using an RV as part of your retirement plan, keep in mind that most Class C motor homes (average retail price, $89,000) don’t measure up in size and amenities to the bus-style, Class A RVs (averaging $180,000) that retirees favor. If you want a taste of that life, pay the extra for a Class A rental. El Monte and Road Bear offer these for about $2,000 to $3,000 a week, as do many independents.”
Mary Jane Curry has a fabulous and easy recipe for peach pie perfect for RVers. Pick up some fresh peaches as you pass a local fruit stand and whip this up in the campground for desert!
Fresh peaches are in season, juicy and ripe and ideal to add to a salad, enjoy as a snack, cut in half, remove the pit/seed and grill as a side dish or create a delicious dessert to enjoy with friends or something yummy to take to a potluck. I came up with an easy fresh peach pie recipe that you can…
The only thing is she forgot to add cinnamon… ????
I’ll definitely be trying this one, thanks!!!
The cinnamon or nutmeg ruins the flavor of peaches, in my opinion!
I would never , everadd either to them!
On a 49 mile stretch of I 75 in Southern GA just now, we saw dozens and dozens of utility vehicles headed to FL ahead of #dorian. We stopped counting at 100 such trucks. #rvlifestyle
Good!!

Awesome
Glad you guys left. Wished our son and daughter in law could. He is a youth pastor and couldn’t. Be safe!!

That’s what utility people do
So awesome. Thank you all
Thank you in advance.
Staging so they can begin restoring power as soon as possible after the storm. Lifesavers!
Got to be ready.
I appreciate linemen and women and the collaboration between different utility companies. But these companies are paid obscenely well for their services – and in Florida, FPL controls much of Tallahassee. It’s the least they can do.
Renting an RV may be a cheaper way to test it out as opposed to buying one but it’s not less expensive than a hotel. Still, it might be a perfect way to take a vacation or explore an area. This article mentions a few sources for rentals other than the biggies like Cruise America.
We’re dog people. If you know anything about us, you know that. Jennifer and I both grew up with dogs and since we married, we’ve always had a dog. When we started RVing in 2012, we had Tai, who was our third Norwegian Elkhound. When Tai passed away in 2015, we soon had Bo, our fourth Elkhound. On…
The tone is a bit of a downer but there are certainly points to consider. Traveling in an RV isn’t a ride off into the sunset of happily every after but it is a wonderful alternative if you go in with your eyes open.

It’s time for some straight talk: The RV Lifestyle is not as idyllic as you may dream it is. At times it can be quite frustrating. We surveyed our RV Podcast Community and in this episode, we’re going to tell you what bugs RVers the most and what can be done about it! Plus, we’ll talk about ca…
One of the topics that we are asked about a lot has to do with insurance for RVs. It’s an important question because if you make a mistake you can end up overpaying or not having enough coverage. It’s also a tough one to answer because there are so many variables — yet you want the best deal, …
You partnered with them to get us a ‘free special quote’ so the questions are 1. what company(s) charge consumers for a quote. 2. One of the things we love about the Emerald Coast of Florida’s Panhandle is the summer cloud formations out over the Gulf of Mexico. The sky is constantly changing with big puffy clouds and the lighting this time of year on the water is gorgeous. Oh yeah, on the week before Labor Day the beaches are pretty empty, too!! #rvlife#rvlifestyle#floridapanhandle#okaloosaisland
The RV park was not only a popular stop for tourists halfway between Anchorage and Denali, but it also provided running water and laundry services for Alaskans living in dry cabins nearby. Now all that
Emerald Coast Meet and Greet this Sunday? Jennifer and I (and Bo) are down on the Emerald Coast in the Florida panhandle for a couple of weeks. Anyone up for a meet and greet this Sunday, Sept. 1? We’d meet in a parking area of the Gulf Islands National Seashore at Navarre Beach, FL from 3-6PM CT, after which we’d head to a local restaurant and have dinner. Bring your RV, beach chairs and whatever refreshments you need. If you can make it, reply here and we’ll make it happen!
That would be cool. Can’t make dinner, but would love to come and meet you guys
Sometimes we can get so wrapped up in making sure our RVs are in tip-top shape before hitting the road that we let our own health become less of a priority. That is, until we’re far from home and it’s too late. Alas, some of you will no doubt will run into a health issue while RVing. I know we s…
The annual Upper Peninsula winter gathering of Fellow Travelers of the RV Lifestyle is on and ready for you to make your reservations! The dates will be January 9-12, 2020 In the Tahquamenon Falls Lower Falls Hemlock campground. This will be the sixth year we have gathered up there to play in the snow and hang together in the beautiful UP. This is an informal gathering, which means you have to make your own reservations with the Michigan DNR. Go to their website at https://midnrreservations.com/. Book the dates you want (some of us are coming Thursday, some are even staying over to Monday). After you make your reservation, be sure to join our special winter campout Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697339513886451) and introduce yourself and tell us what site you booked. All communication, announcements, etc as we get close to the date will be done through that group. We’ll plan meals, firewood, activities, etc. through the group. Who says you can’t camp in the winter in the far north? This is always a highlight of the year for us and we can’t wait to see everyone!
Wait until you see why they call it the greenest camper van they’ve seen! We were in an RV back in the 90s that was a red and black Route 66 decor. That would have gotten old for us in a day or two. This would for me too. That and the price tag. Wowser!

Hey Fellow Travelers of the RV Lifestyle… we’ll be live streaming at 7PM EDT Tonight on the YouTube RV Lifestyle Channel, answering your questions, sharing…
As the RV industry goes, the overall economy follows, according to experts — and as a result, our beloved lifestyle recently has been making headlines. The reason? Year-to-date total wholesale shipments of recreation vehicles are down 20.3 percent, and some believe RV sales serve as a kind of bell…
RV companies need to innovate more and america needs more RV camps
First off they need to revamp the whole system because it seems to me all there selling is junk RVs out there maybe a couple of Manufacturers had some good ones but most of them are just junk in the whole system needs to be re-evaluated and some quality control needs to be set because people are spending 30 and $40,000 on an RV that’s falling apart right before their eyes and when they go for their warranty it takes sometimes months ,years to get things repaired and then there just half ass repairs
Perhaps the problem is the vast majority of RV manufactures make crappy RV’s and people are finally saying NO MORE. I will not waste my $$ on your crap and they simply find another way to fulfill their dreams of travel w/o wasting money on products that fall apart quickly.
Even if the quality issues are not the reason, they should be! Quality and innovation will be the ticket out of the quagmire. People will pay for quality. No company is perfect, but I believe the Sportsmobile approach is the right one – give people what they want and don’t force standard plans that include things like showers when the buyer is just going to use it as a broom closet.
I think it had to do more with quality is not there for the cost. Spent weeks researching to make informed decision and tons of bad reviews and horror stories. Ridiculous pricing for poor quality is the problem.
The Class B’s are way over priced I think. They are the most desirable for a single person but they could be much more homey inside and have much more storage.
The do it yourself van builders seem to be the most innovative and make them so much homier and with much more storage. Some of them use large beds and for me that is wasted floor space though. I would rather have a twin bed size with storage under neath and more walking room with cabinets lining the walls and floors though for storage of course. A rear bumper for the sewage hose would be nice in the Class B’s too.
In my economics class I learned what is called “the supply of law and demand”. Which means RVs are selling like crazy and the dealers had a ton of RVs on hand so therefore they were making less money on the units. By cutting back on production, this allows RVs value to increase allowing dealers to charge more per unit. Which in turn increases sells due to competition. This makes it great for the economy. Tells me our economy is doing great!!!
We posted about this dealer before. Now he has been charged with additional fraud. If you sell your RV on consignment and still have an outstanding loan. you need to be careful and follow up regularly.

If the restroom looks like that no one should stay there!????
My sweetie won’t schedule any campground with less that 4 of 5 stars for the bath house.
Ewwwww????
Totally agree. We always use OUR bathroom. You buy a RV you might as well use it!
That is spot on!!!
If it is a campground than this is your government at work. RV park, inexcusable. Leave
Ugh! but sadly this is half the bathrooms at parks in the U.S. we tent camp and carry a portable toilet and shower. We take a smaller tent for our “bathroom”
I would be telling the owners/managers fast! But, that’s why we use our bathroom in the camper too!
It’s not dirty, just worn out. Wear water shoes and get in there and shower! That’s the difference between a camper and an RVer.
Yuck.
Why do people have to disrespect other property
We see this quite a bit. We stay at lots of different campgrounds from privately owned to state and federally owned. The shower houses are usually nice but why would you use the shower house if you have a nice motor home or camper? So many times you will see nice campers but the people walk to the shower house every day. ????♂️
It reflects two things: 1. The park managers are not doing their duty to keep the facilities clean; 2. Those using the facilities and leaving a mess should be ashamed. We have a camper with our own bed, bath and kitchen; we use them!
Sad thing is that is nicer than a lot we have seen
Must of been Taco Tuesday!
They don’t want to have to dump their tanks. Place could use a new paint job. Must not have prepped right.
Call me crazy – but this doesn’t even bother me. I wear shower shoes when I shower in any campground shower…. no matter how clean. I actually love showers like that one in the back that have a separate bench behind the door for all my clothes and shower items.
Everyone loves Guacamole! Chef Mary Jane Curry has a great RV recipe for Guac today on the RV Lifestyle blog that is perfect for the RV on your next camping trip!
Summer produced abound right now at both Farmers Markets and the grocery store! Here is a homemade guacamole that is easy to ‘whip up’ while camping. You can vary the fruit, peppers and seasoning to fit your ‘likes’. I happen to have some perfectly ripe tomatoes on a vine at home and put them to use…
What can I say besides interesting? Millennials working and traveling full-time. Their budget today contains things that were unnecessary in the 90s when my late husband and I were doing this and her income is a lot more!
The Shoal Tent – for those wanting to get even closer to Mother Nature! It’s inflatable so you can carry it in your RV. (Not sure if this is for real or tongue-in-cheek, however it is back ordered.)
There is a particular genre of internet video dedicated to breathlessly showcasing products so stupid that surely it must be intentional. Perhaps you recall the Pause Pod, a miniature tent that allows you to nap on the floor at work, thereby relieving you of the stress of having once had a job. This…

For Campfire victims living in RVs and mobile homes, keeping them cool is a real problem. Where before many had solar panels on their houses so electricity was very low-cost or free, now they must run extra air conditioners to keep it bearable. Food doesn’t last very long because RV refrigerators don’t cool as well. PG&E has offered tips which could help anyone who is stationary.
Tops 5 Tips for a Cool RV August 16, 2019 KC 1 Comment Most RVs will have a 30 degree temperature differential after applying these ideas! If you are spending more than $150 a month for your generator or PG&E, you are doing “it” wrong! And there’s many people spending between $400 to $700 a mo…

This coming RV park will be in a super location in the San Diego area. It’s location is not far from a trolley stop so you would be able to take that downtown and even out to El Cajon. And- it may be pricey! It will be part of a larger complex and include walking trails and shopping.
The Port of San Diego has approved the first lease for the Chula Vista Bayfront project — a destination RV park that will complement the planned resort hotel.
We are nearing the end of the summer travel season — a bummer for a lot of people, but a boon for many RVers looking to take advantage of reduced crowd sizes, and better rates, among other things. Oh, and don’t forget about those amazing colors courtesy of Mother Nature. If you’re already at w…

Things can quickly go wrong on an RV trip. Mistakes can be made. Lessons can be learned. Here’s a story On the RV Lifestyle blog about a woman camper’s close call last year that reminds us all how we need to be prepared and keep our heads in emergencies
When Penelope Bax left on an RV trip last year, the plan was to relax while camping her way through California and Oregon to visit family in the Seattle area. However, fate had other plans for the 63-year-old flower shop owner from San Diego. One wrong turn led to her being stranded for four nights….
This is a good reminder to always be prepared. So glad she is ok.
Good grief
Interesting story. I wonder why she felt sleeping outside was safer and how she get her RV out of there.
Always remember keep something that large on a highway. And full of gas
I’m glad it turned out well for her. Her emergency preparedness needs serious review especially on a long drive like that.
I’m curious why she felt safer staying at vehicle for 4 days then hiking down a mountain. I’m a hiker so I can see why she stayed there initially but I might have at least have mentioned it in the article. There are ways … to leave a note and then mark your hike route with sticks as you go.
Bill Howe
Maybe she should sell her RV and move into a retirement home. Terribly written story with little to no details of her harrowing 5 day experience. Why did she sleep outside instead of inside? Why did she not hike to higher ground or back the way she came in search of a signal? Yes they say to stay put when you are lost for no more then 3 days then start planning a hike out of there. If she came across several forks in the road she should have turned around using one of them when she realized she was lost, and never take a big class C into forest roads you have no idea where they lead.
Really fun concert at Lakeside Ohio tonight a couple blocks from the campground. Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr of the Fifth Dimension. Where else can you camp and walk to great concerts each night? Last night it was the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra. Thursday it was Cuban music with Adonis Puente. We love this place! #lakesideohio#rvlifestyle#wendland

This week on the RV Podcast we talk to the straight-talking Bob Zagami, head of the New England RV Dealers Association, about “the Truth about RV Dealers” on the misconceptions many consumers have about RV dealers.
Among the inside secrets about RV dealers revealed by Zagami:
• How much a dealer should be expected to discount price on a new RV
• How much a brand new RV depreciates the moment it is driven out of the lot
• Why it can sometimes be so hard to find good and timely service at a dealership
• What upsells like extended warranties and insurance that buyers should reject
• And what a consumer should look for in choosing an RV dealer and salesperson

If someone starts honking at you or signals you to pull over, it’s best to do so and check out what is going on. Pulling over and quick action saved lives and the towed car.

This is the first van and Class C rental I’ve seen where you can rent it for 4, 6 or 12 months. You can rent them out of MT or UT, close to many national parks. It may not be cheap, but may be less expensive than buying an RV for what turns out to be a one-time use.
Over the past seven years as we’ve traveled across North America in our RV, in small towns and large cities, we find an Anytime Fitness. And while this is the club we’re members of, this video isn’t meant as a commercial for them. It’s meant as a tip that inspires you to join a place like th…

The Easter bunny is a little early don’t ya think?

The new Safari condo is compact, lightweight, and aerodynamic travel trailer. The main goal was to build a spacious small caravan for green vehicles, where energy consumption is important – thus the choice of shape. You be the judge about whether it is worth the price, or not.
