I’ve got an opportunity to buy this beauty for around $20K less than market. 44K miles and barely used coach. All in working/ near new condition.

I purchased a 2020 Lance 1475 in May that’s also in great shape, but only have a Honda Passport as a tow vehicle and have been thinking about upgrading it.

If I sold the Lance and Passport, I’d be able to get into this Thor and pick up a sedan for a Toad.

I like the Thor for the space, but also love the Lance for the quality and portability.

Does anyone have experience with Thor build quality? Do they hold up or would I be getting into a money pit?

flyfreeflylow:

Thor build quality is all over the board. I have a ’21 Four Winds and it’s great, and have had no significant issues. Others have issues. It’s really luck of the draw on these hand-built, entry-level units. (On the bright side, it’s a pre-Covid unit, which is a good thing.) Have a specialist inspect the unit and go from there. As with any unit of any make, if there are any signs of water intrusion, it’s probably not worth the hassle.

Things to watch out for in this floorplan specifically: Make sure the slide goes in/out smoothly and easily without binding or odd noises and that the metal tracks on the outside of the slide unit are reasonably clean and have no signs of metal shavings (indicating issues). Also, the slide has electrical, plumbing, and propane going into it, so you’d want to make sure all of that gets inspected well.

Edit: A further tip on use of the slide: Always fully extend it once you start to extend it. Don’t extend it part way and then retract it. That can cause the motors to lose sync and bind. Likewise, always fully retract it once you start to retract it. Once it’s extended, hold the button for a few seconds after it stops. Do the same when retracting. Doing these things helps the motors to stay synced and will help to prevent issues.

I would never purchase a Thor product after our friends fiasco.

Warlord-27:

Thor is probably the worst manufacture of all time, hard pass.

bobdoleadin:

Had a 2020 Thor four winds no slides on a Chevy chassis (was new). Up traded for a class A gas after a year of use. The four winds had a bunch of plumbing issues. We had to replace just about every pex joint in the coach. Leaks behind shower wall, leaks everywhere. Used a wp regulator but fittings would just pop off and shoot water everywhere. Chevy chassis was solid though I do miss that.

Feraltravelling:

I have never owned a Thor, but I haven’t heard anything good about them. If you look online at rv dealers and most of the used rvs are Thors, that should tell you something.

boiseshan:

Had a 2016 Thor ACE. It was…. OK. Got us where we needed to go, but there was always something to fix when we got there. If you’re saving that much $, I’d spend some on having it inspected

I’d keep your lance and Honda, which are both good quality
