Brand new camper, had a water leak coming from the water heater bypass valve shown in picture. I tried to tighten, and I must have stripped the thread because it got worse, I took off and now it won’t go back on.
It’s under warranty, but I’ve heard that’s a lengthy process and the dealer is bought it from is 90 minutes away, so if I can do this myself and save 6 hours of driving I’ll consider it.
I am having trouble finding this valve, however. Any suggestions?
Also, the fitting on the right is like a pex crimp, but I’m not sure about the left side. Would I need to replace that whole line?
Any help would be appreciated.
If you look closely you can see that the fitting isn’t real square with the tank. I think that is causing the problem. There is likely a conical washer in that fitting and it maybe not sitting right, causing the leak.
The line on the right you can install with a constant tighten clamp or I have used a worm clamp too. The on left I can’t tell, but I’ll bet that has male fitting on it and screws in.
Take lots of pictures and keep all the recites, log the time it takes you to repair. Submit all info to the dealer and ask to be reimbursed. Not likely, but worth a shotz still could get something out of it.
If the lines have extra slack the just get a uniform 3 way flared valve and cut the hose ends. Then slide the hose ends on with a clamp, and tighten the clamps. Just make sure the diameter of the flair fits the inner diameter of the hose.
Edit: looking closer you’ll need the center connection to be a female thread. Not sure which diameter.
It definitely looks like a crossthread situation. Also another issue is very common, pex fittings used with reinforced pvc hoses eventually leak. There are several good youtube videos on this issue.
