Hey guys! So my mother in law just bought a brand new 2024 heartland Eddie Bauer travel trailer from camping world (I know, I know ????) and by just bought I mean literally, hasn’t been off the lot and on her land for more than 2 weeks.
Problem is… we just had our first big rainstorm, and suddenly she noticed water pooling up in her bathroom along the floor, at the base of her counter. There was no wet marks or water on the wall anywhere… we’re just trying to get an idea of where to look and how to remedy the problem. Windows were dry and so was the area around the shower and exhaust skylight. My husband and I are going to go over and take a look tomorrow to see what we can do.
I know obviously the first thought is take it back to the dealer, but I have heard how notorious camping world is with their service center, having people wait for weeks to months for repairs.
She lives in it full time while her house is being redone so having her out of a house for an extended time is not really an option, and with us being in rainy season in Florida it’s more of a fix sooner rather than later thing.
We’re hoping it’s just a seal issue we can locate, but I wondered if anyone had any experience or suggestions on where to look before we head over! We are quite novice to this but want to help the best we can.
Thanks!
Isn’t it time we invited Consumer Reports to do an annual issue on RVs? Would be very interesting to see the frequency of repair records on them.
Why are you asking here? Take it in for warranty repair.
That’s frustrating.
I would look for internal leaks at faucets or around the toilet (not sure what the cabinet is or what’s in/around it). I would also go on Amazon and purchase some Dicor self-leveling lap sealant for any touchups that might be needed for the roof. It’s just good to have and fairly cheap.
Head up to the roof and look at all the seams and look for areas where the sun may have baked and caused cracks in the factory sealant.
But the process of elimination during your inspection is a very important part. Once you have found the culprit, fixing it is not too bad.
That’s going to be a warranty repair. They better pull the wall apart and change the insulation and the floor too.
At the very least, I would check the sealant around the outside of all windows, vents, as well as the roof sealant everywhere. I bought my camper when it was only a year old. I found plenty of places that the sealant wasn’t done well. Also check vents on top, you should have a cover installed if you don’t already.
Make sure your camper is completely level, I had water leaking through the slide because it wasn’t quite level once.
She needs to spend the time and effort getting this repaired under the warranty. It’s one of the hazards of full time RV living
Looks like the water tripped from the spot in front of the toilet and then flowed left and down. Take a cup of water and just pour some water on the ground and see how the water flows, you’ll see where it’s leaking from and where it’s flowing.
I’m guessing there is a vent right above the toilet? That would be my guess. If the vent was open just a little and you had alot of wind and rain then water could still get in.
