Any one have any experience with north east campgrounds that allow dog fences? Im trying to compile a list. We just got back from our first trip out with the camper and dog. Sandy Pines in kennebunkport (highly recommend) allowed the fence and it made our trip so much more enjoyable!

Troutman86:

From what I’ve seen it’s not the fence that the issue, it’s people the leave their pets in them when they are not around.

Phrakman87:

I didn’t know there were guidelines against fencing your dogs in, this looks like a fantastic setup, we’ve been using clothes lines and carabiners. Non stop tangling incidents.

Do you have a link to this fence system?

I have seen them used when camping in Maine and Vermont. Love them. If I had a camper I’d have them. Just don’t leave dog unattended in it and have leash ready for when walking dog.

CandleTiger:

Most everywhere I’ve been requires dogs to be on a leash and not outside unattended, fence or no. I haven’t seen rules against fences, but the fence doesn’t negate the leash rule.

I have seen lots of these fences and nobody getting yelled at, so if you’re a “try it and let’s fine out how it goes” kind of rule-follower then I guess you’ll be fine. But if you are a strict rule-follower it won’t work.

We have a retractable leash and tie it to the hand-grab outside the door. It works well, follows the rules, and packs up much smaller than the fence. It does get annoying sometimes when it catches on things but we survive. Since the retractable leash stays taut, up in the air, it doesn’t catch on things nearly as much as a regular rope would.

I’ve had a great experience with Sandy Pines in Kennebunkport, which allows dog fences and made our trip much more enjoyable. If anyone else knows of other Northeast campgrounds that permit dog fences, please share.

We do the same. We take 4-7 panels with us.

Tribe58:

Been using this setup for my 2 Labs for the past 3 years. We purchased 3 sets with 8 panels each. I never leave them unattended and have never had an issue at any place we have stayed. My only gripe with them at all is they take up a bunch of room in the back of my truck. I built a cart out of PVC to store them in and keep them from moving around.
